You can purchase a Netgear router from SkyWire for $50 and we will program it and install it for you. Simply ask your Sales Rep.
How Do I Secure My Wireless Router?
There are 3 basic wireless secure encriptions, WEP, WPA, WPA2. Any of these security encriptions should be sufficient. Refer to your router User Manual.
Can I Have More Than One Computer Connected?
Yes, SkyWire Communications supports any number of computers on our services. In order to do so you will need a router. If all computers can be hard-wired, or connected directly to the router, this is preferable. Where this is not possible, wireless connectivity is the next best solution. Does SkyWire support VOIP (Voice over IP) Services?
SkyWire's System is 100% compatible with VOIP.
What VOIP System Should I Choose?
SkyWire supports all VOIP systems. When choosing a VOIP provider, it is a good idea to know where their company and system is located. A company closer to Utah usually will have better service than one further away. Why is this? This is because even though SkyWire can guarantee QOS (Quality of Service) on its system, we cannot make any guarantees once it is on the internet. So, for example, information sent to New York typically takes longer than information sent to California. When comparing VOIP providers it is wise to ping (test the time) a VOIP provider from your computer before signing up. This will help you to know which provider is best for you. To ping, read the "How Do I ping?" answer on this page. A good ping should come in about 40-70 ms.
We do not endorse any VOIP provider, but have found Packet8 to have one of the lowest ping times (latency).
Pinging is a very valuable tool to help test a internet connection. To ping, open a command prompt. This is usaully done by pressing the start button, click on run and type the letters "cmd". Once you have a command promt open, type for example "ping www.yahoo.com". This will reply with something along these lines.
